If you are interested in all of the (many) steps that we are taking in order to make an international move then this will be a very informative read for you!

As I've been quickly finding out.... moving is kind of a lot of work. And, unfortunately, when you add in moving abroad with a small herd of animals, it adds an extra level of difficulty to the whole shebang. I was preparing myself for things to be difficult or hard to remember but with all of the dates being so dependent on each other, I can definitely see how people can become extremely lost or confused in this process.
I am no means a traveling or relocation expert, nor should my word be taken as one (I mean if you wanted to call me an expert, I wouldn't try to stop you). However, I do think that a site outlining what was required at each step of the moving process would have been extremely helpful to me personally. There are so many different regulations and requirements that are dependent on other documents, requirements etc. so I thought it might be helpful to just have a running checklist/To Do List showing various deadlines that we must meet prior to moving:
Go to the Thai Embassy in Chicago, IL to get our marriage license notarized
This step is necessary for my visa process once we get over to Thailand. I will be applying for a visa that is applicable only to family members of people working in Thailand.
Reach a Final Agreement with the Pet Relocation company
We are using PetRelocation as the company to help us move our four pets over that are going to be too big to fly as carry on :(. They require payment 60 days in advance of the trip, and they will need to book as soon in advance as possible. The dogs will be followed throughout the entire traveling process with them and will be staying at fancy doggy hotels in Amsterdam.
Finalize a Date with the International Shipping Moving Company
We are in the final stages of booking a pickup date for the International Moving Company that will be moving a very small amount of our things over to Chiang Mai for us.
Touch Ups to the House
Once we have moved over to Thailand we will be putting our house on the market! I will be taking some time to ready the house for selling prior to our departure date, but we are in an ongoing process of donating, selling, recycling etc.
Summer School
Susannah will be doing summer school and working as an EL Teacher (English Learners) for the duration of summer school. She is excited and looking forward to being able to interact with more students before she leaves the district.
